As he opened his drooling eyes from a long day at work, he saw that he was not in his dark blank dream where he had continued to envision himself , but in the middle of a public bus returning from work, late into the afternoon. His eyes looked in the direction of what woke him up. A turn taken by the bus had let in the angled tropical sunlight directly onto his face.
There seemed to be lot less number of two wheelers in the traffic and more convenient travelers in the comfort of the AC. Little pedestrians that he saw seem to hurry for cover in the shades of the very few dehydrated trees amongst other concrete roofs in the concrete jungle. The black tar shone as though it was coated with diamonds. The Sun seemed to have had a continuous streak of baked oven days for several weeks now and the AC in the bus was not helping much. He had already held his removed and folded up heavy suit overcoat. His hands felt heavier with exhaustion. He was soaking with sweat all over. With reluctant effort, he unbuttoned his collar and loosened up his tie. Now, he felt he could partially breathe again.
His eyes now wandered with wonder if his fellow travelers were feeling the same. He mostly says eyes that were too tired to look up with body postures expressing the same exhaustion. But then there was this one cute girl who caught his attention. From the looks of it, although, she too was a similar office professional, he noticed that her eyes were in contrast to everyone else's. It was alive and jumping and looking all around her surroundings. Her hands had freed themselves and left her bag on the floor carefree right next to her almost jumping feet as well. She seemed not bothered by the low performing AC of the bus at all. The beams of direct sunlight on her face made her bask in it.
